So I have read this book and I LOVED it!! I then sent a copy to my grandfather who LOVED it and passed it on to my father, aunts, granny, etc...All of whom LOVED it...I spoke to my grandfather about it for weeks before I finally just ordered him a copy. After reading it he said it put in to words things he has felt for a long time but couldn't find the words to describe his thoughts. My grandfather is a retired baptist pastor and while we don't always agree on everything we did agree about this book. Now keep in mind, it is not THE BIBLE, but I LOVE how its true focus is about a REAL RELATIONSHIP with Christ. For me personally and for my father, whom I spoke to last night about it, it broke down barriers that we have had. It caused me to see my relationship with Christ in a new and refreshed light. I don't know if it is b/c of some really deep wounds and my struggle with relationships that I just could not feel worthy of His love for me. My very conditional LOVE has been a HUGE stumbling block and God has really been working on that with me. The JUDGE chapter really OPENED my eyes to how I treat people and God and I DON'T WANT THAT SEAT LOL....Putting God as a big black woman was almost a little too much at first but I got the point, God reveals himself to each of us in different ways daily, if we are looking. Is He in the eyes of your children, a woman of God in your church, someone at a bus stop...Are you looking?? I think people have gathered the wrong idea about the point of the book....That is what I took from that part of the book anyway and hey maybe I am wrong but that is what I got...I have been told that there is some controversy over recommending the book to new christians or non christians b/c it goes against some doctrine...I don't really know what that means but I just know what the book has done for me personally in my life and my fathers....Maybe it is not a book for everyone but if you have a hard time w/a relationship I would recommend reading it. If you struggle with accepting the struggles etc. you are facing or have faced I think it is worth the read...God uses different things for different people, that is TRUTH...Does that change who God is, NO, God is the same not different to each person...but he uses different things to speak to different people...He doesn't just use christians or the bible; He uses whatever he chooses...He has used more nonchristians in my life than christians...God is bigger than the box we place Him in and that is what I get from the book....Sorry for the random rambling....Much luv...I'm....out!!!
